Eliminating Worry Through Financial Planning

Seventy percent of all worries are centered around money. But a budget and a good spending plan can help relieve worry and stress while handling daily expenses.

There never seems to be enough to pay those bills and cover expenses that seem to increase year after year. One of the major reasons why worry about money is so prevalent is because there is no plan on how to allocate money wisely.

Economic prosperity has one major flaw. It promotes the feeling of invincibility when money flows easily. Indiscriminate spending, buying on impulse and accumulating things that don't enhance life or its purpose becomes the rule until the economy takes a turn for the worse. Few people ever consider creating a budget in times of prosperity.

One of the cardinal rules to eliminating financial worry is to realize that handling money is as much a business for the average consumer as it is for a corporation. The typical approach of many families toward money would bankrupt any business very quickly.

Following a few simple rules on handling money will reduce worry, lead to peace of mind and enhance health and wealth.

Keep a Ledger on Expenses

A ledger reveals where every dollar goes. It clearly shows those frivolous expenses that amount to a significant drain on the pocketbook. While keeping a record may seem like a lot of work, it can be a fun activity once unnecessary expenses are eliminated and the money begins to grow in a savings account.

Create a Financial Plan

Next to knowing where the money goes comes the need to create a financial plan. That plan outlines the need to meet necessary expenses. Clothing, food and shelter are all necessities, so they require setting aside the money to meet them and include extra to factor in the costs of inflation. Luxuries and wants can go into the plan under a separate column. If the basic needs are met, some of the money left over can be applied to wants.

Create an Emergency Fund:

Illness, sudden home maintenance costs, vehicle breakdowns are facts of life. An emergency fund should be set up to meet any unexpected costs. The money should be kept in a savings or a money market account or Internet savings account for quick access when it's needed.

Learn How to Spend Wisely

There are many ways to spend a dollar. Government, banks, the library and Internet can provide valuable information on how to use that dollar wisely. These sources should be tapped into regularly.

Don't Increasing Spending with Income

For many people, the more money they make, the more they spend. It takes discipline to stick to the family budget well after the salary increases and bonuses roll in. More money should translate to more savings rather than an extra vacation trip.

Pay Insurance and Taxes Promptly

The home, the car and other possessions can all be lost through fire or accident and take years to rebuild the equity. A good insurance policy is worth the money spent for it and will relieve the financial worries if an accident should occur.

Be Content

It's human nature to want to improve the quality of life. Everyone wants more than what they have. Unfortunately, with today's credit based society it's far easier to dig a financial hole than it is to be patient until those luxuries become affordable. Learning to be content prevents the stress and worry that comes from having to meet financial obligations.

These seven points can help eliminate a great portion of anxiety. The purpose of life is to increase financial value and provide the happiness that comes from a carefully planned strategy on handling money. Few people achieve both.
